Do dragons dream of limitless gold...

This afternoon, Harmi’s song draft reached 17,000 words, so the project is steadily, if slowly, growing. Telling a story from the dragon’s viewpoint continues to be challenging, especially as she doesn’t necessarily have human experiences or emotions or opinions on matters. She has been raised by Tam and shares Tam’s consciousness, so certain attitudes and habits fall in line with human behaviour, but Harmi is also the endpoint of generations of dragons and she carries their memories – their instincts – and sometimes there is a distinct clash of cultures for her to resolve.

Today was a watershed moment as I understood what path the dragon’s story will follow as the book develops. While the story begins with her in a passive role – being protected – the tale is taking a serious turn and she will now begin to choose her destiny and become proactive in doing so. She will have to make very big decisions on her relationships with her human family.

In other news, artist and friend Kirsi Salonen has forwarded the third cover for the series and again it is stunning work. She captures the spirit and the characters wonderfully in this cover art and I am indebted to her for taking the time and care to create the images so masterfully.

I also joined an online inspirational group of writers who spur each other on with writing each week. Tagged as The Ministry for Reformation (nice title, Lee), we share our progress – highs and lows – to remind each other that we are writers, and that writing doesn’t mean factory-line productivity either.
